An escape for the soul in Menorca, Spain

This was my 2nd trip to the beautiful island of Menorca, we came here a few years ago with my partners family for their family holiday, this time was my family, and it was beautiful. Bright blue sea’s and little coves for beaches, the weather was at around 28 until the last day when it reached 30 and I hid in the shade! We came with TUI as we loved the service we received in Greece….everything was just easy and accessible with hotel reps and the app has chat, check-in, boarding passes, excursion booking etc.

There were 5 of us on the trip, 4 adults and a child and it was a really smooth process from start to finish - I can totally see how families make it work with multiple kids when it’s like this. A short 2hour and 40 minute flight had us in Mahon Airport for 9:30am and we stayed Monday-Saturday.

The Hotel

Globales Mediterrani - A 4* All Inclusive, family hotel in Cala Blanca, next to a little beach cove and the staff where lovely. The hotel, 50 minutes drive from the airport, had a main restaurant and separate bar, plus a pool bar and restaurant and 3 pools (main pool, quiet pool and kids pool). If you know anything about me, you know I’m all about the adults only holidays but as we were away with family, it wasn’t an option…however, I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of ‘quiet space’ available throughout the stay.

The Morning Trip to Ciutadella, the former capital of the Island.

We are fortunate enough to usually book a trip away, and whilst TUI had trips available for the markets, cheese & wine tours and caves, none of them appealed to us (the majority can’t swim and it was cheaper for us to go by bus - should we want a market). BUT the town and Port de Ciutadella de Menorca was lovely when we visited a few years ago, so we opted for a taxi (which the hotel kindly booked for us) and we were there in 10 minutes!

We arrived before opening and enjoyed the quietness of the streets and a walk around the port, with a quick drink stop at Café Es Pou before heading to the beautiful gothic Cathedral Basilica of Ciutadella de Menorca. Inside is a small museum and entry grants you in to both the Cathedral and the Monasterio De Santa Clara (we opted out of the convent visit). Finishing off with a bit of shopping in Eden and Naíf before heading back to the hotel for lunch.

The strip we almost didn’t see

Travelling with family, me and my partner opted for a couple of night strolls alone and stumbled upon a little strip behind the supermarket with a Jenny’s restaurant where we ate on the Thursday (highly recommended), a spot to watch the sunset and Jigger’s…a cocktail bar that set your drinks on fire!! Yes, I am this easily pleased. We tried to visit a 2nd night but it was closed :(

We spent most of our days by the pool or at the beach and took the opportunity to spend our last evening by the beach as the sun set. It’s fascinating watching, what seems to be a beautiful local life of slow living. A morning run followed by a dip in the sea before the tourists arrive and then an evening swimming or paddle boarding, with food and friends or sometimes alone.

There’s something peaceful about it all that made me want to disappear for a month or two.

Are you travelling any time soon, where are you going?
